Sam I am.

I'm a Detroiter now! And Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, School for Environment and Sustainability. For the time being, consider this site an archive: it contains blog posts as well as information about my research and teaching.

My name is Sam. I study economics and policy as it relates to energy and the environment. What motivates me in general is the size of society's "pie" and a fair distribution of it. Environment and energy are together responsible for a large part of the pie: they're vital inputs to health, incomes, and general well-being. Right now, society's rules and actions (or lack thereof) make the pie smaller overall and also make its distribution really unequal. I want to change that.
